This 8 Days Kilimanjaro Lemosho 5 Day Safari will cover mount Kilimanjaro trekking on Lemosho route then go on safari 5 days. This is a popular Tanzania tours combining Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti. You will spend 8 days on Kilimanjaro lemosho route followed by 5 days safari to Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater, Tarangire and Manyara national parks. You will also have 2 nights hotel in Moshi one before and one after trekking Kilimanjaro.

Itinerary – 8 Days Kilimanjaro Lemosho 5 Day Safari.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

You will be met upon arrival at the airport and escorted to the waiting private car then you will be transferred to the hotel in Moshi for briefing about the next trek.

Day 2: Trekking Londorossi Gate 2,250 meter to Mti Mkubwa Camp 2,780 meter.

In the morning you will be taken to Londorossi Gate, a 2 hour’s drive from your hotel. Upon completion of all the entry formalities and a final 15 km drive on a bumpy road you will reach your starting point at the edge of the rainforest. You will enjoy lunch before you set out on the trail through the rainforest. Today’s walk is quite short, about 3 hours, compared to the days ahead, thus giving you time to enjoy the lush scenery which will drastically change over the course of your trek. Day 3: Trekking Mti Mkubwa Camp 2,780 meter to Shira 1 Camp 3,500 mater.

As you walk along the thin trail through the rainforest, you will notice the vegetation becoming scarcer and scarcer until you finally reach moorland filled with Lobelia and Eric plants. Ascending through rolling hills, you will reach Shira 1 Camp in about 3-4 hours. Looking over the Shira Plateau from your camp you will be able to see the unmistakable snow-capped summit of Kibo. A hearty evening meal and a last glimpse at the starry sky will bring the day to a close.

Day 4: Trekking Shira 1 Camp 3,500 meter to Shira 2 Camp 3,900 meter.

Today you will cross Shira Ridge with its rocky ground, low grasses and shrubs. As the terrain is much flatter than the day before, your hike will seem more leisurely and you will enjoy fantastic views of the Great Rift Valley and Mount Meru. Beautiful and distinctive Giant Lobelias still dot the moor landscape. Day 5: Trekking Shira 2 Camp 3,900 meter to Lava Tower 4,640 meter Barranco Camp 3,960 meter.

After breakfast you will start your ascent to Lava Tower through a boulder-strewn terrain. In the distance you will see Kibo encouraging you to continue uphill. Reaching Lava Tower at an altitude of 4,640m, you will rest and allow your body to get used to the higher altitude, after which you continue downwards to Barranco Camp. This method of climbing high but sleeping low allows your body to acclimatize to the differing altitudes and gives you a good idea on how your body react to changes in Altitude. Along the way the scenery changes once more and soon you are surrounded by giant Senecias and smaller Lobelia plants. After 6 – 7 hours you will reach the beautiful and green Barranco Camp, which offers great views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains.

Day 6: Trekking Barranco Camp 3,960 meter to Karanga Camp 4,035 meter.

The famous Barranco wall, which is probably the steepest part of the entire route, awaits you after breakfast. Although no technical climbing is necessary, some spots do require you to use your hands for a better grip and to pull yourself up. Your guide will be close by to help you if necessary. After you have pulled yourself around the Kissing Rock you will make your way along the mountain ridge and through the Karanga Valley. You will also pass the last water spot as you finally reach Karanga Camp after 3 – 4 hours. After a well-deserved meal, it is off to bed.

Day 7: Trekking Karanga Camp 4,035 meter to Barafu Camp 4,640 meter.

Today you will make your way to Barafu Camp at around 4,640m, which you will reach in about 3 – 4 hour. The landscape is very dry and the ground cracks like glass under your boots. As you make your way through the afro-alpine dessert to the rocky Barafu Camp, a sense of excitement sweeps over you as your final stretch is but a few hours away. The Barafu Camp with its rocky scenery allows for a stunning view of Mawenzi Peak and the summit path ahead. After an early dinner and last minute preparation for tomorrow, you will go to bed.

Day 8: Trekking Barafu Camp 4,640 meter to Uhuru Peak 5,895 meter to Mweka Camp 3,080 meter.

At around midnight you will be awoken with some hot tea and biscuits in order to get you ready for today’s ascents. You will ascend in a north-westerly direction through heavy scree toward Stella Point, arriving there in about 5 – 7 hours. At Stella Point you may rest if necessary before taking on another 1-2 hour stretch along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak – the highlight of your trip. A breath-taking view awaits you as you stand on the highest mountain in Africa. After taking as much pictures as your camera will allow, you will leave behind the glistening glaciers and snowy peak and make your way back down to Barafu Camp. Here you will have time to catch your breath before heading further down to Mweka Gate (3,080m), an approximate 3 hour walk. Day 9: Trekking Mweka Camp 3,080 meter to Mweka Gate 1,630 meter to Moshi.

After a hearty breakfast and a traditional farewell ceremony by your mountain crew, you will start your final descent to Mweka Gate. A leisurely 2 – 3 hours walk will take you once more through the lush rainforest, where the endemic Impatiens Kilimanjari flower grows. Reaching Mweka Gate where your transferring driver will be waiting for you. He will take you back to Key’s Hotel in Moshi and after a warm shower, the rest of the day is free to rest, relax at the pool or celebrate your achievement.

Day 10: Arusha to Tarangire National Park.

In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel after breakfast and you will travel to the Tarangire National Park. This park with its huge baobab trees, the unseasoned Tarangire River and seasonal swamps is home to the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. In dry season the animals gather at the river and you should be able to see elephants, giraffes, bushbucks, hartebeests, dik-diks, waterbucks, warthogs and reedbucks all year round. In additional to the park is also home to buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests which are always closely followed by a range of predators such as lions. Leopards are seen every once in a while but cheetahs are rarely spotted. From the open roof of the vehicle you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals. After an extensive game drive, you will leave the park in the late afternoon and drive to the Osupuko Tented Camp.

Day 11: Full day in Tarangire National Park.

Leave the lodge or camp after breakfast and explore Tarangire at its best at different places and time, you will spend the full day driving around the park in search for wildlife of the park. Tarangire is the third largest national park in Tanzania making this park one of must visit national park in the area.

Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu.

After an early breakfast start and make your way through the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro highlands into the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is almost 600 m deep, approximately 20 km wide and the massive caldera is home to an amazing variety of animals. On your game drive you have the possibility of seeing all different kinds of mammals ranging from the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – to Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles and mountain reedbucks. You might also see spotted hyenas and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area. After a picnic lunch in the crater and some more animal viewing, you will leave the crater in the afternoon and travel to Karatu.

Day 13: Karatu to Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha.

After breakfast, you will leave the highlands and continue to Lake Manyara National Park, one of the smallest but most diverse parks in Tanzania. The shallow and alkaline Lake Manyara covers a large area of the park and it is the seasonal home to thousands of flamingos – an awesome (pink) sight. However more than 500 other bird species are also found here as well as some wonderful mammals. Troops of monkeys live in the forests, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests on the grassy plains and elephants and lions in the acacia woodlands. After an intensive game drive and a picnic lunch, you will leave the park to arrive in Arusha by the late afternoon.
